If so, then the Postgraduate in Economic Diplomacy is exactly what you are looking for. Participants in this programme are instructed in the legal and business aspects of economic diplomacy through a combination of academic and practitioner-led courses, complemented by a series of skills and thematic workshops. Compulsory courses are followed by either elective subjects in Washington and/or Shanghai, an internship, or a thesis. All designed to ensure that our graduates are ready for a career in economic diplomacy.

Programme

The postgraduate in Economic Diplomacy prepares students for a career in diplomacy, especially economic diplomacy. Courses of high academic quality are enriched by hands-on input from practitioners. Participants are instructed in the legal and business aspects of economic diplomacy. Skills workshops support optimal professional performance.

  • A mixture of academic and practitioner led classes, designed to provide theoretical and practical understanding of the various aspects of economic diplomacy.

Study credits

ECTS (European Credit Transfer System): 1 credit represents 25-30 hours of study activity.

AFTER GRADUATION

This programme is designed to enable graduates to enter the labour market or improve their career prospects within and beyond the field of economic diplomacy.

 

First step in the market

The postgraduate aims to deliver graduates who are ready for professional life. Graduates are well placed to take part in the diplomatic exams, especially the exams aimed at a career within economic diplomacy. 

Realistic job opportunities can also be found within governmental departments and international organisations.

Furthermore, due to the international business courses, graduates may find a job in the field of international business development (import, export, international investment).

Finally there are job prospects in banks, for example in the international trade finance department, in the international investment finance department, and in corporate relations.

Prospective students are strongly advised to contact us to discuss the programme before applying.

  • The semester starts on the 1st of September.
  • Note: if the proof of English proficiency or APS certificate is not ready before the deadline, you can always submit it later instead of missing the deadline

International opportunities

The Postgraduate in Economic Diplomacy is the first and only transcontinental programme in Economic Diplomacy.

In the second semester, students can choose electives amounting to:

18 ECTS in Washington D.C.

or

18 ECTS in Shanghai

or

9 ECTS in Washington D.C. and 9 ECTS in Shanghai

It is also possible, under certain circumstances, to undertake an internship overseas.

Tuition fees

BDA programmes are not subsidised. The tuition fees for the Belgian part of the programme are 6800 Euros, with additional fees for electives in Washington and/or Shanghai.
