International Master in Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy refers to the diagnostic and therapeutic processes regarding the impairments related to the functioning of the musculoskeletal system. All participants have a profound preliminary background in the field of rehabilitation science. The course is intended for the practitioner that wants to deepen his knowlegde of the musculoskeletal system trough long distance learning. This online course offers you the flexibility of studying from anywhere and at any time over the Internet. 

The content of this programme includes Advanced Anatomy dissection, Biomechanics and Medical Imaging. The course also focusses on applied statistics for Musculoskeletal research. The master thesis covers an experimental study in the field of Manual Therapy presented as paper ready to be published in an international high-impact journal.

Admission criteria

Admission is based on the review of each application: proof of meeting academic and language requirements, personal motivation, etc.

 

Specific admission criteria

The master is open for students with a master degree in physiotherapy, obtained in an officially recognised university or institute for higher education. This degree should cover a 240 ECTS programme. In some cases, students with a professional bachelor degree can be accepted, provided they can document additional education in the field of Manual Therapy totalling their overall curriculum to at least 240 ECTS. In all cases candidates must have a Diploma in Manual/Musculoskeletal Therapy recognized by IFOMPT (The International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists).

Language requirements

Prospective students can provide proof of sufficient knowledge of English as language of instruction by meeting one of the following criteria:

- having successfully completed one of the following language proficiency tests:

  • TOEFL: minimum level: 213 for the computer-based test (CBT); 72 for the internet-based test (IBT); 550 for paper-based test
  • TOEIC: minimum level: 785
  • IELTS: minimum level academic module 6
  • CAE: minimum grade B
  • CPE: minimum grade C
  • ITACE for Students certificate with ERK/CEFR score B2
  • Cambridge English First (FCE)
  • Cambridge English: Business Vantage (BEC Vantage)
  • Cambridge Michigan ECCE
  • Trinity College London: ISE II, GESE Grade 7-9; or ALTE Q mark
  • The Pearson Test of English General (PTE General): minimum level 3
  • The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): minimum level 59

- having successfully completed at least one year of secondary education with English as language of instruction, or having successfully completed secondary school in a Belgian institution;

- having successfully completed program units in higher education with a minimum of 54 ECTS-credits where English was the language of instruction.

Prospective students are advised to apply as soon as possible, even if they have not yet obtained their degree.

• Note: if the proof of English proficiency or APS certificate is not ready before the deadline, you can always submit it later instead of missing the deadline

Together with the course coordinator an individual trajectory may be planned if necessary

 Tuition fees

The tuition fee for the International Master of Science in Manual Therapy is 3537,6 Euro, given you take up all 46 credits in one year.

Planning

Classes are taught through distance learning using assignments during the year. Fixed contact moments with the course titulars can be arranged on demand.

Two separate weeks of interactive classes are foreseen in Brussels. The first week of on-site classes will be held in week 48 of the calendar year (29th of November to 3th of December 2021). The second week of of on-site classes will be held in week 12 of the calendar year (21st to 26th of March 2022).

Exams wil be held on Monday 21st of March (for the first week of on-site classes) and in June or July 2021 (after consultation with the participants).
